Dearest diary,
It’s nice to see you again! This day was full of adventures... You should have been there to see! Kidding, you’re a diary, your eyesight is nonexistent!
Vicky’s mother, Mrs. O’Malley, told us a very popular Irish legend about St. Patrick. A long time ago, the saint chased all the snakes away from the island to protect the people. And I thought to myself “If there are no snakes here, then why is my clue a snake? What could this mean?”
I have been puzzled by this question for quite a while until Vicky, out of the blue, said “Wait! There are snakes... at the zoo!”. He doesn’t realise it, but he’s a genius.
We asked Vicky’s parents to drive us to Phoenix Park. When we arrived, I went straight to see the reptiles and left Vicky behind. I searched and searched, but the clue was nowhere. I felt so sad and disappointed!
After an hour, I met Vicky in the park. He bought some ice cream and a magazine from the shop. He likes kids’ magazines, especially the ones with jokes and puzzles.
“What’s up? You look like you’ve seen a ghost, Saira.” he said.
“It’s way worse! I can’t find the next clue!”
“Oh! So that’s what’s bothering you. I totally forgot. I’m sorry.”
His tone was as carefree as always.
“By the way, where have you been all this time?” I asked.
“I kind of went around this place and had fun. You know, we don’t need to be so focused just on finding clues. Detectives need a break too.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right…”
He opened his magazine at a page that contained a crossword.
“And I may or may not have found this” he said, pointing to the author of the puzzle.
My eyes brightened with excitement when they met with that signature. Someone trustworthy. I reached to the magazine, but Vicky didn’t give it to me.
“Hey! We must solve it!” I insisted.
“Not until you have fun!” he ordered, jokingly.
And then we took a walk in Phoenix Park and saw all of the attractions. My mind went back to it’s normal senses. I was so obsessed with finding the next clue that I couldn’t enjoy a fun day at the zoo like Vicky. Maybe that was the quest - simply enjoying my time in Ireland.
When we arrived home, we were too tired to resolve the crossword. But I don’t regret anything, because I had a fun day at Phoenix Park!
I wonder where the next clue will lead us...but that is a story for another time! Bye-bye!
